SwiftBBS 0.45c beta notes
The enclosed programs are beta updates to the latest
(0.35i) official release of SwiftBBS. Remember, these are
beta copies. DO NOT erase your latest working copy of
SwiftBBS. Refer to SwiftBBS 0.35i documentation for
installation instructions, etc. The following notes are
(possibly incomplete) addendum for releases after 0.35i.
0) When selecting message areas, or displaying active
messages, This release features flashing *'s besides areas
with new messages. New messages are calculated using
current lastread and combined settings.
1) This release adds a default Bulletin option in opus-style
menus, and changes the prompt defaults. Any number searches
and displays the BULLETxx.A??. When a numbered bulletin is
displayed, <Enter> or 'N' will increment the bulletin number,
otherwise, <Enter> exits. Also when a numbered bulletin has
been displayed, 'A' will redisplay, and 'B' will decrement
the bulletin number. Selecting 'S' (for stop) or 'Q' (for
quit) will exit the bulletin menu. Otherwise, any character
displays the BULLETcc.A?? file, though characters should not
ideally be used. Bulletins also now provide for More
pausing.
You will need to adjust your bulletin prompt accordingly,
to something like:
Select 1-99, A)gain, N)ext, B)ack, L)ist, Q)uit:
2) This release adds/alters the File section. File transfer
options are not working yet.
The File section option F)ile list, displays the list of
files, FILES.BBS in the subdirectory 'FILES'. The option
V)iew File will prompt and display the file in the
subdirectory 'FILES'.
3) Undocumented, Read allows you to select 'I' for
individual messages.
4) Undocumented, the Next prompt allows you to select '*'
for non-stop reading.
5) SwiftBBS nows properly creates NETMAIL.BBS for netmail
messages (previously all mail was listed in ECHOMAIL.BBS).
6) The questionnaire option now has limited support. The
questionnaire type (type 12) reads the script file (.Q-A) in
the data field and outputs responses to an answer file
(.ASW). The character '|' is used for new lines. Currently
supported commands are:
PostInfo -- writes information line in the following format.
** Dana Bell answered on 25-Dec-91 at 18:36
Display "|Information to display " --
Displays the string in quotes to the user.
Ask xx Var --
Receives xx characters of input from the user and stores
in the variable 'Var'. Currently, only 20 variables are
valid.
OutputAnswer "|Information to write " Var --
Writes the string in quotes and the response stored in
Var to the answer (ASW) file.
SetSecurity nn --
Sets the user's security level to nn.
Quit --
quits the script.
6a) The questionnaire option has been expanded extensively
and allows read/write to database files, repeats, and
nested Ifs. The expanded options are covered in the
supplementary update file SWIFTQRY.DOC. (Should be included
in current archive).
6b) Documentation is added to the main file, SWIFTBBS.DOC
with the language format added as an appendix.
7) Flag support is added in all programs. On-line, Alt-F is
used to change the user's flags.
8) The UserList is being expanded. This release allows you
to search by Name or Location. A global search '*' is
supported for both options.
9) Since the changeover to Borland, SwiftBBS dates have
been mixed up in several areas. I think I have them all
fixed now. Fixed dates for errors posted in SWIFTBBS.ERR,
dates displayed for messages, and dates written to the user
records.
10) Thanks to Keith Cain's affection for the ESC key
remotely, removed this debugging feature from real
releases.
11) Restricted selection of areas to only named or active
areas.
12) Modified the G)oodbye to prompt before final logoff.
13) Added *H (hot fossil) support to type 7 shells.
14) Modified version display to show date/time of
compilation.
15) Added -unattended support (very limited testing) to enable
the modem to answer the phone via ATS0 settings. In other
words, it'll work as a truly independent BBS. Waits for a
call and allows local logon with the L key.
16) Changed to use an internal order of processing, rather
than use commandline order.
17) NOW SwiftBBS commandlines are CASE SENSITIVE. -l and -L
are not the same.
18) Added terminal support back in, but with -T option.
19) Reorganized the structure of the source files in
preparation for developing new structures.
20) Added full addressing to Netmail, and fixed
reply-netmail to allow proper and changeable addressing.
Point addressing will require development and alteration to
the message base file formats.
21) Netmail areas now show the Network addresses of From
and To entries.
22) Swifecho : modified packet tossed to NOT abort packet
if a single message is corrupt or doesn't indicate version
2 support. Previously modified to NOT abort if packet
doesn't indicate version 2 support. If you don't know what
packet version 2 is, don't worry about it. It's FTSC
specification for echomail.
23) Swiflink : doesn't log "no link file" as an errors in
Swiftbbs.err.
24) Swifpack : Fixed some stuff to allow for faster (3
times) packing when not writing in place.
25) Swiflink : Improved memory management to allow for
faster linking. Requires a bit more memory to run.
26) Swiflink : Won't attempt to create temporary file if
not enough disk space.
27) Msgtxt : Added options to change page break character,
and to ignore/strip page breaks.
28) Swifcnfg : Changed some stuff to allow for easier
editing of Users and Menus.
29) Swifecho : Allow for more error checking when exporting
mail.
30) SwiftBBS : Move option now changes the nature of the
message when moved to netmail. Also have Alt-M active to
allow for local changes of the message attribute bits.
31) Documentation : Added a reference to the smiley faces
in the appendices.
